Beginner Jett Guide

VALORANT Jett

Welcome to my first agent guide. Who better to start with than the most insta-locked agent in VALORANT history :)

I'm kidding. I'm covering agents based on the most recent international event which was Valorant Champions Tour Stage 2: Masters Reykjavik. Jett was the most played agent across all teams and maps. She had an 80% pick rate overall and a 100% pick rate on Icebox and Split.

Before I get into the details of Jett, my recommendation is to change your key binds from the default settings. Default settings are C for Cloudburst, Q for Updraft, E for Tailwind, and X for Blade Storm. You need as much mobility as you possibly can when playing this agent. I don't know about you guys but I find it difficult to strafe right and Tailwind at the same time with the default keys. I also find it hard to strafe right and Cloudburst. For this very reason, I added a secondary key for these skills. I found mouse4 for Cloudburst and mouse5 for Tailwind was useful (for me). I could move in every direction and use these abilities without twisting my fingers on the keyboard.

Key binds are personal preferences so this is only a recommendation. If you can strafe right and Tailwind, which is probably the most important thing to be able to do. Keep using the default settings, or whatever you are using now.

What are Jett's strengths?

Jett is the best agent (currently) at creating space and entering into a site first on the attack. Another one of Jett's strengths is her ability to make risky aggressive plays because you can Tailwind (Dash) away when you are in danger, or after you get that first kill.

What are Jett's weaknesses?

She's not the greatest at being alone and lurking. Her abilities let you get out of situations but she doesn't have any delay in her kit, such as a molly, flash, etc. The ultimate (Blade Storm) is not the easiest to use because you need accuracy and control.

What maps is Jett good on?

All of them. You can make her work on every map, that's how impactful she is in the current meta.

Now that you know Jett's strengths and weaknesses let's go into her abilities with examples on how to use them. The definitions below in quotations were taken from the Play VALORANT website.

Glide/Float (Passive)

There is no mention of this on the VALORANT page for Jett but she has a passive ability. She can float in the air if you jump or Updraft and continue to hold your jump key (default is the Space Bar). This passive ability is mainly used with her Blade Storm + Updraft, or falling off elevated areas where you might take damage. You will see me demonstrate gliding throughout the video examples.

Cloudburst

INSTANTLY throw a projectile that expands into a brief vision-blocking cloud on impact with a surface. HOLD the ability key to curve the smoke in the direction of your crosshair.

There are tons of use cases for Cloudburst but here are some examples of how you can use it.

You can smoke off choke points temporarily. The Cloudburst doesn't last as long as an Omen, Brimstone, or Astra smoke but it can still be used as a temporary solution while you try and make a play, or run by a certain area.

There are opportunities to create a 1-way smoke for yourself. The idea behind this is to leave a gap underneath the smoke so when the enemy tries to run in you will see their feet and be able to shoot them. From their point of view, all they see is smoke.

When people pin you in corners and you're stuck, you can throw a bunch of Cloudbursts on the ground and either create confusion, get away and/or reposition yourself to a better location.

One of the most useful things as an entry fragging Jett is the ability to Cloudburst and Tailwind into it. This creates the most space for your team.

The Cloudburst can also be used to block the view of other abilities. The most common would be Sova's Recon Dart and Killjoy's Turret.

Updraft

INSTANTLY propel Jett high into the air.

You can use the Updraft to get into positions you wouldn't normally be able to.

Since the Blade Storm is 100% accurate while moving and in the air, using the Updraft to peek over boxes to gain an elevation advantage is common.

There are gimmicky peeks on almost every map that can be used. In the video below I demonstrate a few of them.

Tailwind (Dash) - Signature Ability

INSTANTLY propel Jett in the direction she is moving. If Jett is standing still, she will propel forward.

If you're playing Jett it's your job to get into the site and create space for your team. The easiest way to do this would be to toss a Cloudburst on the ground somewhere, or on top of a box and Tailwind into it. If the enemy team decides to shoot at you, your teammates enter the site behind you should have free kills.

In my opinion, this is the biggest strength of Jett. Her ability to be aggressive and take fights at off-angles and still being able to get away after the initial contact. Here are some of the peeks that I often take on Haven as examples. This same logic can be applied to every map in tons of locations.

A side note, a real good Jett will always know when to Tailwind away out of danger. It's almost a "spidey-sense". They will rarely ever die for free when they have this ability available.

Blade Storm - Ultimate Ability

EQUIP a set of highly accurate knives that recharge on killing an opponent. FIRE to throw a single knife at your target. ALTERNATE FIRE to throw all remaining daggers at your target.

There are 2 ways to use this ultimate, you can left-click or right-click. Left-click is amazing for popping off heads at long range with 1 shot.

Right-click is best used for close-range situations. When you're really close there's no reason to aim for the head. Right-click the body and it's almost a guaranteed kill.

That's it for the Beginner Jett Guide! I hope this helps you if you're new to VALORANT and thinking about picking up Jett as a main. Leave me comments below if you have any questions. I'll always answer them!
